Default Excel: how can cell contents be coloured if they are negative?

I have set up a spreadsheet for financial accounts and wish to highlight
results where the balance is less than zero. Is there a way of writing a
cell formula or another way of showing negaitve results in, say, a red colour
both on the screen and in print?

Use a custom format, along the lines of

#,##0,[Red]-#.##0

Hi,
One way, in the format cell option select Currency as the "Catagory"
and in the "negetive numbers" select the red negetive numbers. Another
way is to use conditional formatting, Format/Conditional
Formatting....cell value is "less than" and type 0, then choose your
format.

Hi pinmaster

Many thanks - I am a new user so I had missed the obvious solution. Exactly
what I wanted.
