I erased quite a few columns in my Excel spreadsheet and was planning on
saving the file under a new name. Unfortunatley, I saved the file under the
old name.

Is there any way to recover the old saved file. IS there version control in
Excel.

I am running Windows XP SP1.

This one woks in Word, I don't know about Excel but you can try:
If you go into Word and say open, then next to the open button, there is a
little arrow. If you click on that, there'll be an "open and repair"-demand.
I hope it can help.

I am sorry, but can you be a bit more specific. In Word, under the File menu
there is OPEN, but I do not see any arrow next to the open button.

I do see the Open file image with an arrow in the toolbar, but it does the
same thing. It brings up the OPEN dialog box, and I do not see any arrow

Can you please provide a more detailed way of performing the task you are
speaking off. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Once you show the File|Open dialog, you can select the file to open.

But instead of clicking on the Open button in that dialog, use the little arrow
that's on that Open button and choose "open and repair".

But I don't think that this will help you. Your file isn't corrupted so that it
needs repair, it's been written over.
