Default Excel workbook responds very slowly

I have a workbook that responds very slowly when I scan right, left, up, or
down.
There were validation rules, and formulas within the workbook, which i have
removed. Any thoughts?

If all of the formulas have been removed, then either the workbook is just
too big, or you have too many things running while you are viewing it.
