Default Why has my cell text been replaced by # characters?

I have an excel spreadsheet that contains text only and the text has been
replaced with # characters in two of the longest sentences. I have wrap
turned on for all cells and thought that the character limit for a cell was
on the order of thousands.

Try changing that cell's format from Text to General.

(Strings with lengths between 255 and 1024 can cause trouble.)

And you can put 32k worth of characters into a cell, but only about 1000 will
show up--unless you add some alt-enters (to force new lines within the cell).

I put alt-enters every 80-100 characters.
