Default When I open Excel, 3 un-requested xls.docs are opened. Why?

Each time I open my Excel program, three excel documents open as well. I
want to change this so it does not happen. How do I do this?
Thanks

At startup Excel will automatically open any file stored in the XLStart
subdirectory. To find whether this subdirectory is in it's default location, or
whether it's been redefined elsewhere, click on ToolsOptionsGeneral and look
at the startup file location. If you don't want the files located there to
start automatically, then you should move them elsewhere or delete them.

You can go into the Excel help system, and type "startup" into the Find search
pane for more info.

Good luck....

Ahhh.... That's a whole different problem then. Am I correct in assuming that
you don't see the extra files open with any other Excel program -- just with
Addressbook 1?

It sounds like perhaps your Addressbook 1 file has a macro in it that
automatically calls up those other three files for some reason. Did you create
this Addressbook file yourself or inherit it from elsewhere? If you click on
ToolsMacroMacros does it show a list of macro names or just an empty pane?

You can try opening your Addressbook 1 file without automatically running macros
to see whether it still opens the three other files. After you've opened Excel,
then open your Address 1 file by using the menu FileOpen, select your file and
hold down the shift key as you click "open". That might tell you something
about whether a macro runs automatically when you open the Address 1 file.

Thanks for your help. Actually, when I open Excel alone, it brings up these
other workbooks. What do I do?

I'd double check under:
tools|options|general tab
"at startup, open all files in:" <xl2002+ wording
"Alternate Startup File location" <before xl2002 wording

And once more for the XLStart folder(s).

If that doesn't work, maybe just looking for those three files would help.

What are the names of the other 3 files?

If you close excel and search for these 3 files, maybe you'll find them in the
XLStart folder.

Use Windows start button|search
to look for the 3 files.

If you find them and move them to another location, maybe that would be
sufficient.
