Clearing unwanted or historical entries from header/footer dropdow
using Excel 2003
I'm trying to clear all the historical information listed under the drop-down header and footer buttons. Is there a fast easy (or any) way of doing this? Clearing the custom headers doesn't do it. The info seems to be associated with the computer at the application or user level. The information in the drop-down must be stored perhaps in a location such as Documents and Settings\Owner\Application\Data\Microsoft\Excel, which is where Excel stores the custom chart format that can be created; or maybe even in the registry. (Owner just happens to be my user ID - yours might be different) Does anyone have any info or ideas? |

You can't. These are built-in (Not historical) and are templates established based on file/sheet names, etc -- HTH Nick Hodge Microsoft MVP - Excel Southampton, England HIS "Ches" wrote in message ... using Excel 2003 I'm trying to clear all the historical information listed under the drop-down header and footer buttons. Some seem to be historical, Nick; after I've changed a custom header or
footer, the changes show up in the drop-down selection, so I figure Excel must write them to a template/file somewhere... and if that is the case, then they must be editable. |

I suspect the Excel file structure is set to read the file properties as with the sheetnames, filename, etc. AFAIK these are not editable certainly. The only thing I haven't tried is round-tripping the file to HTML and back which I sometimes use to stop corruption, etc. It may clear out some junk Anyone else? -- HTH Nick Hodge Microsoft MVP - Excel Southampton, England HIS "Ches" wrote in message ... These are not stored in any findable/editable place in the registry AFAIK.
I have spent much time looking, so save your time and effort. AFAICT the only item that can be removed is the Author through FilePropertiesSummary.
