Thanks John
Many people don't appreciate these wrong-dated posts because they tend to stay on top. No problem with Forte Agent, those posts are marked as read and don't show up again, but I think those using OE can't get rid of them. Yeah, my oldest posts (in terms of article number) stay on top, so I guess I'm different that way, too. I've never used OE, so I don't know what's possible, but that's pretty lame... |

That's how we clear the spam (which seems to be increasing!). |

Why would anyone want to take up hard-drive space by downloading newsgroup messages at all (unless one's going to work off-line)? In my newsreader I just mark articles/threads as "read" and I never see them again - but they never actually get downloaded, so they never have to be deleted. |

Because on a dialup line you can have the system reading them
to your harddrive and not wait for anything yourself when you want to look at the next or any other message or thread. Since they are all text they don't use much space. The big ones just don't get brought in and are never seen. "JE McGimpsey" wrote in message news:jemcgimpsey- Sorry, that's just weird. Fair enough - though when I was on a dial-up, I still used a newsreader that only brought down the threads I wanted, and didn't see any significant delay other than the first message. Different strokes... |

Hi Bob,
Delete key should work from newsgroup with OE for email and newsgroups. Actually I use Shift+Del so it is not put into a delete folder or the recycle bin. Also best way to deal with spam that could have viruses, so they can't run from the recycle bin. To delete from a search of OE, move to your "Delete" folder. then Shift+Del within the "Delete" folder any time after. For Hotmail if you are grandfathered in so you can use OE you usually have to move to your "Delete" folder. Deleting from the hotmail folder is at the whim of the hotmail servers. --- HTH, David McRitchie, Microsoft MVP - Excel My Excel Pages: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/excel.htm "Bob Phillips" wrote in message ... You can of course set up OE so that your delete folder is emptied
automatically when you quit OE. Bill "David McRitchie" wrote in message ... Hi Bob, Delete key should work from newsgroup with OE for email and newsgroups. Didn't know about that, it works and does not put anything into the recycle bin. After testing, I put it back so it won't delete automatically. It did not throw anything into the recycle bin either. I thought I'd seen deleted email messages in a friend's recycle bin and she had OE, guess they were something else. The option won't clear out Hotmail delete folder as that would require interaction on the Hotmail server. --- HTH, David McRitchie, Microsoft MVP - Excel My Excel Pages: http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/excel.htm "Bill Sharpe" wrote ...
