Does not simply "copy, paste" work ?
If I'm not missing something in your question, it should work. Cousin Excel "Bill" wrote: Excell 2007 I have an IF formula for contents in workbook A. I would like to copy the IF formula into workbook B and have it apply to the contents of workbook B. Suggestions please. Thank you, Bill |

That does not work. I can copy from workbook A. When I go to paste in
workbook A and hit Paste, I do not get the Formulas option, only the Past Special option. Any other suggestions? Thank you "trip_to_tokyo" wrote: 1. I have 2 Workbooks set up. 2. It sounds simple. But copy and paste is not woking for the formula. When I
copy from workbook A, I am only able to copy the "result" of the formula (in workbook A) to workbook B, but not the formula itself. Any other suggestions? You have your two workbooks open in separate instances of Excel which do not
communicate with each other. Close down one instance and open both workbooks in a single instance. Gord Dibben MS Excel MVP On Fri, 12 Feb 2010 08:20:01 -0800, Bill wrote: That does not work. Both workbooks are open. Yes, I am using Paste/Paste Special on Clipboard.
Regarding previous post, was there a reason why I was getting that particular menu (as I described) when I hit Paste Special, instead of the menu that shows: Paste: All Formulas Values Etc. Etc. Operation: None Add Etc. Etc. "trip_to_tokyo" wrote: Make sure that you have both Worbooks open at the same time. If you don't some of the options get greyed out. Bill,
You need to have both worksheet open in the same instance of Excel. 1) Open Excel 2) Open worksheet 1 using open file button 3) Open worksheet 2 using open file button Then try copying your formula. rzink "Bill" wrote: Both workbooks are open. Bill,
I believe Gord replied with the same correction as I did. As to "how", see my orginal post. You must open both worksheet from within Excel. Once you have worksheet 1 open, go to your quick access toolbar or Office Menu for 2007, or FileOpen for 2003 and open worksheet 2. This will open both worksheets in the same "instance" of Excel. If this does not fix the problem, then the other option is to copy the literal formula text from one cell to another. Select the cell, hit F2, then select all of the formula text within the cell and hit Ctrl-C. Move to worksheet 2 and select the desired cell. Hit F2 and then Ctrl-V to past the formula text into the cell. Hit enter to accept and exit cell editing. Hope this helps. Ryan "Bill" wrote: Gord: Not familar with instances. Close workbook B
then.............. ButtonOpenworkbook B. If you double-click on a workbook to open you can create a new instance of Excel for each workbook you open. To prevent this behaviour if you don't want it........... ButtonExcel OptionsAdvancedGeneral section. Uncheck "Ignore other applications that use DDE" If no joy with that then one more step to re-register Excel.............. Close Excel first and On the Windows Taskbar StartRun "excel.exe /regserver"(no quotes)OK. See the space between exe and /regserver You might have to designate a full path to excel.exe. In that case StartRun "C:\yourpath\excel.exe" /regserver(quotes required)OK Gord On Fri, 12 Feb 2010 10:46:01 -0800, Bill wrote: Gord: Not familar with instances.
