Default fill series option not available

'fill/series' option is not available even though I have been into
tools/options/edit and ticked the 'allow cell drag and drop'. Tried
formatting cells as text, number or general.

Default fill series option not available

Hi,

We need more details - what do you mean is not available? You are selecting
a range with something in the first cell and choosing Edit, Fill, Series but
the command is grayed out?

Show us a sample of what you are trying to file, show us what you get, show
us what you expect. Tell us how you are attempting the Fill - toolbar
button, menu, right-mouse button, left-mouse button? What version of Excel
are you using?

If this helps, please click the Yes button.

Cheers,

I am having the same issue in MS Excel 2003 and have no experience of this
happening in other files or even in older versions of this file.

Another thread mention that 'Protection' might be the problem. No worksheet
protection is evident in this particular MS Excel 2003 file that is causing
the problem.

The 'Fill Series' is not available (grayed out) when I use the right-click
and drag at the corner of the source cell and drag to the desination cell or
highlight the cell and attempt to choose the 'Fill Series' from the Edit
menu. Only the 'Copy Cells' option is available in either case.

Where do I look for a setting that will resolve this issue?

ToolsOptionsCalculation can be Auto or Manual.

Excel takes the Calculation mode each session from the settings on the first
workbook opened in that session.

i.e. If you saved Book1 with calc mode in manual and opened it first, calc
mode would be in Manual.

If you saved Book2 with calc mode in auto and opened it after Book1, Book2
would be in manual mode(Excel ignores the auto calc mode in this case).

If you close Book1 before opening Book2, Book2 will be in auto calc mode.

Confusing enough? <g

Try: Tools Options Calculation and make sure the option is checked
for automatic calculation.

I hope that helps - it fixed the issue for me, although I have no idea
how it got changed in the first place. :)
