How do I sort data in PivotTables in Excel 2000?
Thanks for great help!
There is only one thing that I still can't get to work. My pivotTable now looks like this: Data Search String Count of Search String Sum of Value Hello 1 114.95 help 1 17.9 thank you 3 203.7 Grand Total 5 336.55 I'm able to sort the data by "count of search string" by right-clicking on search string ~ field settings ~ advanced ~ and there use the auto sort function. But How can I sort the table by sum of value if the count of search string is the same? I would like it to sort by count of search string AND THEN by sum of value. Is this possible in excel 2000? Thanks again! "Max" wrote: This seems to work in xl2003 .. In your pivot as posted, drag "Data" field, drop it over "Total" so that it looks like this (a single ROW cum 2 COLUMN layout): Data Search String Count of Search String Sum of Value Hello 1 114.95 help 1 17.9 thank you 3 203.7 Grand Total 5 336.55 Then select any cell under "Search String", click the PivotTable dropdown choose Sort and Top 10 In the dialog, check "Descending", using field: Count of Search String (select this option from the dropdown) And .. that should yield the exact results that you're after Yes? Punch it here, click the YES button below -- Max Singapore http://savefile.com/projects/236895 Downloads:25,000 Files:300 Subscribers:70 xdemechanik --- "Maria" wrote: I have something like this: Search String Value Hello $114.95 help $17.90 thank you $27.90 thank you $87.90 thank you $87.90 I have made this into a pivot tabel by putting the search strings in ROW and search string as well as value in DATA. This lookes somehing like: Search String Data Total Hello Count of Search String 1 Sum of Order Value 114.95 Help Count of Search String 1 Sum of Order Value 17.90 Thank you Count of Search String 3 Sum of Order Value 203.70 I want to sort this pivot table after the search string that is the most common and therefore has the highest count of search string. And if there are search strings that are equally as common then they should sort after value. If I use Data~sort it will not sort after two different things. |

How do I sort data in PivotTables in Excel 2000?
.. I would like it to sort by count of search string AND
THEN by sum of value. Is this possible in excel 2000? Within the live pivot itself, I don't think so. Even in my xl2003 there's no such feature that I could gather. You would need to make a frozen copy of the pivot, then proceed via Data Sort. -- Max Singapore http://savefile.com/projects/236895 Downloads:25,000 Files:300 Subscribers:70 xdemechanik --- "Maria" wrote: Thanks for great help!
