Default Dragging Text or Date Fields to Copy

When I have a date field, or a text field with numerals included, and then
drag that field down a range of cells, Excel increments the date or the
numeral within the text. How do I copy a field down a range, leaving it
unchanged, by dragging the value without incrementing the date or numeral
within text?

Thanks
Bill

I find this kind of thing difficult to remember, too.

So instead of struggling, I'll just rightclick on the autofill button (bottom
left corner of the activecell) and drag down.

When I let go of the right button, excel will prompt me with a bunch of
options. I can choose what I need.
