Default Dragging AlphaNumeric Cell to Copy

When I drag an alphanumeric cell to copy it the numeric values in the cell
increment by one (1) in each successive cell. Example, when dragging a cell
with Payroll 2008 entered, I'll get Payroll 2009, Payroll 2010, etc. Works
the same with dates.

Sometimes this is helpful, sometimes not. How do I turn this on/off if I
want to copy the contents of the alphanumeric down or across with the value
unchanged?

Thanks
Bill

Keep CTRL key pressed while dragging. Actually it can be pressed only at the
time of releasing the left mouse button.
