Default Fill in a series of numbers

I simply want to continue the series numbers 1,2,3,€¦ (autocount) without
holding down the mouse €˜fill handle. Some databases are so extensive
(40,000+ records) that it would require a complete minute or more to produce
the series.

Thanks.

Enter your starting number in the first cell. Highlight that cell. Then,
depending which version of Excel you have...

In Excel 2003 or older:
From the EDIT Menu, choose "Fill" then "Series..."
Change "Series In" to "Columns"
Enter your "Stop Value" (40000)
Click OK

In Excel 2007:
From the HOME Tab, go to the "Editing" section
Click on the "Fill" button (Looks like a Down Arrow)
Select "Series"
Change "Series In" to "Columns"
Enter your "Stop Value" (40000)
Click OK
