Default Sheet protection

Excel 2003 - I have a workbook with numerous sheets (18) created by unknown
person within company. It appears to have protection on selected cell on one
sheet. We are able to delete and type new data, but we are unable to paste
formatted data from another spreadsheet. I have checked the likely suspects,
but the options are greyed out. We can unlock other portions of the sheet.
Can anyone direct me towards a solution?

Default Sheet protection

Hi,

A worksheet is either protected or not and if protected then all cells that
are 'Locked' in Format|cells - protection tab are protected. Check the locked
status of the cells you can edit, is the 'locked' checkmark missing?

I have checked the likely suspects,
but the options are greyed out.

What does this mean? which likely suspects are greyed out?

We can unlock other portions of the sheet.

How are you doing this? If a sheet is protected then you can't unlock a
portion of it.

Hi,

If you can type and delete, then you can paste formatted data if the sheet
is protected.

What is the format on the cells you are copying and what part of that format
is not coming along?

Hi,

there is one other possibility, they may be macros which are effecting the
paste process, check the workbook for macros. Expecially the Sheet1 (or
whatever sheet this is happening on) object in the VBE.

When I go to Format, there is no "Cells" as an option. My options are "Text
Box, Rows, Columns or Sheets". Auto Formatting, Conditional Format &
Styles are greyed out, meaning they cannot be used.

With the troubled sheet active, select the tab with a right click and goto
"View code", if there is nothing in that window look to the left side and
there is a list of the projects. Look for the one with the correct file name
and in that tree will be some "Modules" if there are any.
