Default Protect cells

My spreadsheet has columns A-N. I need to protect Col A-G & L so users can
enter data only in Col H to K and Col M & N, and restricted to alter data in
Col A-G & L.

I performed the following but failed to get what I want:
Ctrl A to select all cells. then
formatcellsprotection unlocked
Select Col A_G, hold ctrl to also select L
toolsdataprotectionprotect worksheet
checked unlocked cells only
add password.

I also tried other combination of checking locked and unlocked cells, but
none work.

Where did I go wrong?

Pls help. Thks.

Hi,
did you protect your sheet if yes you have to close it and reopen in order
to get the protection working

Default Protect cells

I made another attempt and it worked.
I first selected Col H-K and M-N (and not the cells I want to protect) that
I want users to be able to enter data,
formatcellsprotection unlocked
toolsdataprotectionprotect worksheet
unchecked "select locked cells, but checked "select unlocked cells
enter password.

Thks for your advice.
