How can I edit a cell many times without it expanded the row everytime I
finish? I use excel for tracking status of issues and projects (who doesn't?). I like to edit my notes in a cell periodically using alt-enter for a little formatting. I also like the row height to be uniform with all the other rows for easier scrolling and viewing. And when I want to view the contents of the notes cell I click on it and read the contents in the formula bar. Works great. Except everytime I finish editing the notes cell, the row expands for that cell. Is there anything here I can do to keep it from expanding? |

You could merge 2 cells horizontally and place your notes in the merged cell.
Row height does not automatically adjust for text in a merged cell. -- Kevin Backmann "Kane" wrote: How can I edit a cell many times without it expanded the row everytime I finish? Interesting. I also use the filters on this sheet. Would merging cells
effect that performance? "Kevin B" wrote: You could merge 2 cells horizontally and place your notes in the merged cell. It doesn't have any impact on AutoFilter, however it can get testy about
sorting. On the other hand you could remove the Wrap Text format from the cells in the column that contain your notes. -- Kevin Backmann "Kane" wrote: Interesting. So I would have to manually remove the wrap text formatting from each cell
each time I edit it? I think I am back to my original need here. "Kevin B" wrote: It doesn't have any impact on AutoFilter, however it can get testy about sorting. If you don't want the cell to wrap why would you format it to do so?
Once you remove the format from the cell and save your workbook it stays that way unless you reformat the cell. -- Kevin Backmann "Kane" wrote: So I would have to manually remove the wrap text formatting from each cell each time I edit it?
