Default Speed Issue after updating cells

All of a sudden I have experienced a problem with the speed of updating cells
on one of the tabs in a fairly advanced spreadsheet. It takes approx. 1
minute to update a cell when I am merely typing over the cell with the number
to remove the link I have set up.
This cell on the spreadsheet links to another tab on the same spreadsheet as
well as to another area on the same tab as the cell in question. To put this
in context, it is a Fantasy Football spreadsheet, which has a 'Manager of the
Month' tab and I need to link to a tab which shows the manager's latest score
minus the score as at end of the previous month. When the month's totals are
ready, I then need to redo the links for the following month, so when I go to
reset the links, it is now taking a long time. I have been running this comp
for over 10 years and the last couple of months is the first time I have had
a problem with it.
I am using MS Office Excel 2007. Please help!
