It appears on additional testing that the problem has something to do with
being linked to a "password to open" protected workbook. If I break the links off the worksheet that is not password protected to open, then the menu items in the formula auditing toolbar become enabled. I still need to protect the data in the other file, so still need a solution. By the way, if the password to open file is open the items on the formula auditing toolbar are still disabled. Thoughts?
