Default Excel 2007 ignores default printer preferences

Just switched to 2007, have a hp 6110 officejet. my printer preferences in
control panel are set for black and white using black print cartridge,
however excel ignores these settings and will print in color unless I
manually adjust the page setup/printer preferences for the sheet. any help?
