Default MS OFFICE EXCEL 2003: AUTOSAVED FILES

I tried to save my MS Excel file to my flash drive. There were some saved
files in that flash drive already. The files from my hard drive were supposed
to replace those saved files. This saving process went the other way around.
Old files in flash drive were saved to my files in the hard drive thus
erasing all the new data I put in the hard drive. I tried to recover the
autosaved files ( the one which was autosaved every 120 minutes) by accessing
C:\Documents & Settings\xxxxx\Application Data\Microsoft\Excel\. But I could
not find any saved files there. I would appreciate any help.

How do you think you "autosaved" them?

There has been no autosave feature in Excel since version 2000

What replaced it was "Autorecovery".

That only creates a temporary backup temp file while you are working on your
workbook.

If Excel or your workbook closes or saves normally, that temp file is deleted.

Opening from or saving to removable media is always a bad idea in my estimation.

Thanks for the input from Gord Dibben. But is there anyway to recover my recent files?

If the old files from the flash drive somehow overwrote the HDD files you were
working with then you are out of luck.

In future, work with files on the HDD then just copy them to FD for backup only.
