If the cells were formatted as TEXT prior to your formatting them for numbers
you red negative format will not show. Additionally, if the number was entered as text, indicated by an apostrophe preceeding the entry your assigned number format does not show. -- Kevin Backmann "ask questions" wrote: -- ask question2 |

Are the numbers "real" numbers or text that look like numbers?
Can you add and multiply with the numbers? What do you get when you enter =ISNUMBER(cellref) in an adjacent cell? If FALSE, format all to General then copy an empty cell.
