Default Hyperlink to a file

Working in Excel2003, I'm trying to hyperlink to a .pdf, but the Acrobat
window won't stay open. The knowledgebase says that it'll only keep a
hyperlinked file open when it's "dirty" - when it's been modified since the
last save (i.e., it's open on your desktop already because you're working on
it). That seems pretty dumb to me, so obviously (I hope) I'm missing
something. Any ideas?

The other alternative that I see is for me to change this database over into
Access in the hopes that it plays better with file linking.

IIRC, the problem was with xl97 and the workbook wouldn't stay open after the
hyperlink was started (unless that workbook was dirty).

But this doesn't address the situation when the .pdf (acrobat window) closes.

Are you sure it's closing.

There have been times when I'm closing windows and I see an Adobe window waiting
for me to respond to one of those "do you want me to check for updates".

And since that window was hidden (for me), I didn't answer and the .pdf file was
never opened.

(just a guess.)

I had the same problem so I went to google.
Evidently, you can open a pdf with adobe reader just fine, but using the
full version bombs out. It's a bug. A new update is supposed to resolve
this (knock on wood). I'm going to try it tonight. The update site is...

Adobe 7.0.1 update download site...
http://www.adobe.com/support/downloa...13&fileID=2551

Thanks for the post--now google has it again!

(I've only used the free reader.)
