You haven't told us what "crazy result" you got, but remember that Excel
times are in units of one day, so a number 7.50 represents 7 and a half
days, or 10800 minutes.

What did you intend 1.2 to mean in minutes and seconds; 1:02 or 1:20?

If you want to put in times such as 1:02 in minutes and seconds, use
0:1:2,
or 1:2.0
[If you put in 1:02 or 1:2, it will treat it as hours and minutes, not
minutes and seconds.]
Then just add them, and format as [m]:ss

I am tracking my minutes on the phone. I have a spreadsheet that I
enter
my
minutes and seconds after every call. For example:

1.2
3.43
7.50

How do I keep a running total of how many minutes:seconds that I have
been
on the phone? When format the sum to give me mm.ss it is giving me a
crazy
result.
