I just installed the latest Excel Viewer, Word Viewer, and Powerpoint Viewer
(along with their latest updates, service packs, and converters) on XP/SP2. Word Viewer has "Tools" "Options" "View" "Windows in Taskbar" which you can un-check, so that no matter how many different documents are open, only one instance of Word Viewer will appear on the Taskbar, and you can instead choose the desired MDI document window within Word Viewer itself. Excel Viewer, however, is creating a new Taskbar button for every document, even when each document is dragged to an already-open Excel Viewer main window, in which its "Window" menu shows all the individual MDI documents open; thus there is really only one instance running, just like Word Viewer. I do not see a similar way in Excel Viewer to set the option to stop the proliferation of corresponding Taskbar buttons, however, as I readily found in Word Viewer. I'm not interested in using XP's "Group similar taskbar buttons" as a work-around, because that introduces other annoyances of its own. How can I get Excel Viewer to show itself only once in my Taskbar? Thanks! -- |
