excel wont let me type percent or fwd slash symbol on their own,y?
i want to type in those charachters but instead of the symol appearing in the
cell, it highlights the menu options at the top (file, edit, fav, etc). it works if i type in the bar, or i type in the cell-delete- and then type percent or fwd slash. Microsoft excel 2003 |

Are you holding down the Alt key?

Go to Tools-Options-Select the Transition tab, and clar out where you see /
and %, i just have / on mine in the Microsoft Office Excel menu key: box -- -John Please rate when your question is answered to help us and others know what is helpful. Try Tools | Options ; open the Transition tab and uncheck all boxes

You could prefix your entry with an apostrophe:
