Default Programmatically determining corrupt excel files

I have a lot of excel files that were dumped from a legacy system that we are
migrating from. For whatever reason, some of the excel files are corrupted
(get a "file is not in a recognizable format" message when trying to open it).

Is there a way through OLE to programmatically determine which files are
corrupted?
