I believe it depends on if the font you are using supports those characters.

No, I tried that. In Windows 2000 using Office 2000 it works fine.
Xp with Office 2003 it does not translate, example:
ABRASIVOS A袮BAR S.L. O 馻ti - Guipuzcoa

Those chinese looking characters should be u's or o's with accents.

Any other ideas would be appreciated.

I don't know what symbold you are using because few fonts recognize the
symbols you provided. Does this set have what you want? Most of the common
fonts will have these symbols.

ÒÓÔÕÖòóôõö
ÙÚÛÜùúûü

I went to WORD and clicked Insert-Symbol and changed the font to "Normal
Text". You should be able to paste these into excel without a problem.
Excel doesn't have the insert symbol functionality but you can still paste
stuff in.

Hope this helps.
