Default Create an automatic backup file on open in EXCEL?

When I open an EXCEL file I want it create a backup copy that's not the same
as the automatic recovery copy. I have some old EXCEL files that do this but
don't know how it was done.

For existing files, do a Save As, selecting the Options button in the
Save dialog, and checking the Always create backup checkbox.

For new files, create a default workbook template (See the "default
workbook template" topic in XL Help) using that option.
