Default problems opening excel worksheets

When I open excel I have only one workbook showing. Perfect. What I want.
When I go to file, open a workbook/worksheet it open the requested file and
gives (?) me another blank workbook. It happens no matter what I open. If
it's a small file, large one of mine or someone elses. What can I do to
correct this wierd little quirk?

What's the name of the file that gets opened that shouldn't be opened?

If you put:
=Cell("Filename",a1)
in a cell in one of the worksheets in that workbook, what do you see?

Does this happen when you open any workbook or does it only happen on one (or
some) workbooks?

Default problems opening excel worksheets

Hi Dave
It happens with all sheets. If I type in the cell of one sheet, it does not
show up in the next. There isn't any xml files in the XML folder that might
cause this. I did open the files on another machine and the file is the only
thing that opened. When I pen it on my machine I get the file, plus a new
workbook/worksheet. We both have XP and we both have 02 excel. I don't see
anything differnet in our settings or our options either.

What happened when you did this:

If you put:
=Cell("Filename",a1)
in a cell in one of the worksheets in that workbook, what do you see?

And how do you open the file?
Do you start excel and then File|Open?
Or just doubleclick on the file in windows explorer?

If you doubleclick on it in windows explorer, look at Tools|options|General tab
and see if there is path listed in the "at startup, open all files in:" box. If
there is, erase that entry from the box.

You may want to check your XLStart folder, too.
