Default Referenced cell shows ='EE-4201-Mp-11'!D3, not the value

Sometimes when I want to reference the value in a cell from another worksheet
I get this in the cell ='EE-4201-Mp-11'!D3. It is showing the worksheet and
the cell and not the value in that cell.

What is causing this. It does not do it all the time.
The format for the cell makes no difference.

I am sure this must be a simple toggle that needs to be set.

Sounds like the cell is probably formatted as TEXT. Even though you may have
changed the format to some other type (like NUMBER or GENERAL) the new
format doesn't apply until you edit the cell.

Select the cell in question
Format the cell as GENERAL
With the cell still selected hit function key F2 then hit ENTER.
