OK... I unticked the ignore other applications box and now this is REALLY
wierd. I get 4 error msgs saying windows can't find the file, which is the path of the filename I am trying to open. e.g Can't find My.xls, then can't find Documents.xls, etc. If I click ok on all of the error msgs it opens the file! When I try start| run| excel/unregsrevr and regserver it says windows can't find the files. This is all way over my head. I am just glad you guys are out there and know what is going on! -- sevans "Dave Peterson" wrote: Sometimes one of these works when you're having trouble with double clicking on the file in windows explorer: Tools|Options|General|Ignore other applications (uncheck it) --- or --- Close Excel and Windows Start Button|Run excel /unregserver then Windows Start Button|Run excel /regserver The /unregserver & /regserver stuff resets the windows registry to excel's factory defaults. Maybe one of these will work for you. Sevans wrote: When I double click a filename in my documents excel opens with a message saying it can't find the file. If I open excel first and then go file/open and browse to the file, it opens no problem. I have re-installed Excell and it still won't work. -- Dave Peterson |
