Default Pivot table problem

Hi all,
I'm not sure if my question i posted to the community yesterday actually
reached anyone as i haven't got a reply until now. I tend to think that it
maybe due to some technical problem of some sort. Anyhow, i'll give it
another try and hopefully someone would be able to help me, even if by
letting me know that my problem is one of a kind and no solution was
discovered for it yet.

I had a spreadsheet that had 1 pivot table and a control button to enable
users to update the data. One day, when a user wanted to update the pivot
table, they got an error message: "Run-time error 1004: Unable to get the
PivotTables property of the Worksheet class".

I unprotected the sheet and clicked on the pivot table but it seems to have
gone static: the pivot table menu doesn't detect it at all, and then i got
this txt repair file saying the pivot report is discarded due to integrity
problems.

I spent nearly 6 hours searching for clues to this problem, and the only
information I found is that integrity problem maybe related to 'losing a
heading in the data main source'.

The source table looks fine, the headings for all columns are intact. The
worksheet was password protected so no user could have deleted the headers at
any stage. And the pivot table was working fine for a few weeks before this
problem occured.

So could it be just a one off mysterious bad luck incident? or something
more serious? What do i need to be mindful of next time i create a pivot
table to avoid similar problems? I use Excel 2003
Your help will be greatly appreciated
thanks

Default Pivot table problem

OK guys, i managed to get another piece of information to the puzzle from the
person who was using the spreadsheet just before the pivot table crashed.
The user was filling in data as normal, then hit Ctrl + S to save the file.
But instead of it being saved, the 'Save As' dialog box opened instead! The
user then clicked on "Save" and replaced the existing spreadsheet.

To me, getting the Save As dialog box is an indication that she was
originally working on a Read-Only copy. Maybe she was the second user to open
the file, while someone else had it open before her. Would this have
contributed to the pivot table problem?

Waiting to hear from the experts :)
