Unless they've built something to do it, he's wrong, it will create two files with the same name but a different extension -- HTH Nick Hodge Microsoft MVP - Excel Southampton, England DTHIS web: www.nickhodge.co.uk blog (non tech): www.nickhodge.co.uk/blog "Mary Ann" wrote in message ... Our IT manager told us that when you use the conversion the old file will go away. I am the only one in my office who seems to be having this problem. -- Mary Ann "Nick Hodge" wrote: Mary Ann This will happen as the format has changed. A standard Excel file in 97-2003 is an *.xls. This will open in XL2007 in Compatibility Mode. You will see this in the title bar. The only way to upgrade this is to 'Save As' an Excel Workbook in 2007. This will make an *.xlsx file and as you saved as, there will be two, but they are very different (look at the size for example). The Compatibility Mode message in the title bar will not go until you close and re-open the *.xlsx file again. The icons are slightly different to identify them if you have file extensions switched off -- HTH Nick Hodge Microsoft MVP - Excel Southampton, England DTHIS web: www.nickhodge.co.uk blog (non tech): www.nickhodge.co.uk/blog "Mary Ann" wrote in message ... WHEN I CONVERT MY OLD EXCEL FILES TO 2007 I END UP WITH DUPLICATE FILES. THE OLD AND THE NEW. THIS IS NOT SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN WITH EXCEL. ANY SUGGESTIONS? -- Mary Ann |
