Default View field list in pivot tables

My field list has disappeared. Usually when you select your pivot table,
your field list appears, and you can drag and drop from there. My field list
has disappeared. I have tried going to the pivot table tool bar and choosing
"show field list", but it still does not show. I have also opened a new
pivot table and cannot see the field list and the field list is also not
showing for previously created pivot tables. What has happened?

Default View field list in pivot tables

Kelly,

Exactly the same thing just happened to me. I think it was related to my use
of remote desktop.

I was running excel on an old laptop that has a 1400x1050 LCD but with a
pretty good video card. I was remote controlling this from a powerful laptop
with a 1900x1200 LCD. Because the old laptop had a good video card, it was
able to display 1900x1200 over remote desktop, even though its built-in LCD
is only 1400x1050. After doing some work with pivotcharts, I disconnected my
remote desktop and went back to using the console of the old laptop. From
that point forward, I was never able to get the field list back. I could even
restart excel and create a completely new pivot table and I could not see the
field list. The Display Field List / Hide Field List button had no effect.

I was able to get it back by changing my Display properties of the desktop
to a lower resolution than 1400x1050. This caused the Field List dockable
window to reappear. I then selected back to 1400x1050 resolution and was fine.

I think what happened is the Field List window was off the edge of the
1400x1050 screen. This happened when I was running at 1900x1200 over remote
desktop. And because there is no way to change focus to that window and
manually move it back to the 1400x1050 area, I was screwed. Changing the
screen resolution caused Windows to force everything back into the smaller
viewing area. I am not sure why this did not happen when I logged in at
1400x1050 after doing remote desktop at 1900x1200.

Anyway, try changing your monitor resolution and maybe you'll get your field
list back.
