Default Alphabetizing within a group of same names in XPExcel2002 column?

I am working on a roster and have more than 5,000 rows of names, classes they
graduated from, the date they graduated and so forth. In my roster, the last
names are alphabetized. But within the columns, for instance, there are
eight people with the last name of Adams. But "Wilbur" comes before "George"
and I need to get those first names (within those same name groups)
alphabetized.

When I try to cut and paste or cut and insert, I get an error message
stating that Excel can't shift nonblack cells off the worksheet and for me to
try to locate the last nonblank cell by pressing CTRL+END...etc.

Help! Thanks!

two things

(Try on a copy of your file until you are sure of what you are doing)

first if you select all of the data and the data-sort first by last name
second by first name you will get them in order

second go to the row just past the last row which shows data and delete all
the remaining rows
save your file and reopen it and you should be able to insert and cut and
paste
