Default backup file created

I have an Excel 2003 document that always creates a backup file when saved.
I want to stop creating the backup files. The Save AutoRecover box is
unchecked and the Disable AutoRecover is checked. What other option would
generate a backup file?

File|SaveAs|Tools|General Options
Turn off that "always create backup" checkbox.
