Default delete a cell

I can't delete, are you telling me it's not possible? I thought the delete
key just clear the contents but did not actually "delete" the cell.

may do as desired.

I know these is probably a stupid question but it is frustrating me
severely.
I am trying to delete a cell, but when you right click and click delete
the
options to shift the cells are grayed out. the only options you can
select
are to delete an entire row or column. also, the page is protected which
i
thought was my problem at first.

thanks
