Default I want to use subtotals in Excel and hide all rows except total

In Excel, I am filtering data and then using subtotals. I then need to hide
all rows except the total rows and keep the totals intact. Is there a way to
do this?

Depending on how you are filtering your data you are probably better off
using a pivot table. It will handle both the filtering and subtotaling in one
convenient package...

To get started on that make a copy of the sheet. Remove all of the filtering
and subtotaling. Select Data- Pivot Table and then follow the wizard... If
you are unfamiliar with pivot tables just reply back and I can send you a few
links to get you going...

I have not used pivot tables so if you can send me links to help get me
started that would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you subtotal the sheets there are three little buttons that appear at the
top left that allow you to view all data with subtotals included, just the
subtotal and grand total data, or just the grand total.

Jim,
Thank you for your help. I was able to figure out the Pivot Table and it
does what I need.

John,
Thank you for your reply, however in Excel 2003 or 2007 I did not see the
buttons you are talking about.
