Default double-click mouse button not working

I use a 3-button mouse, and I've configured the third button to be a
"double-click" button. Excel is the only application on my PC that doesn't
recognize the double-click. (Instead, it interprets the double-click button
as a single-click.) How can I fix this? Thanks!
