Default Pie chart built in 2000, now in 2003 but unable to edit 2003-way

have an old file (unknown excel version - perhaps 97 or 2000), which has
many graphs built. I have added contemporary data to the file and would like
to manipulate the pie charts in the way 2003 permits (e.g. 3D pie chart can
be pulled into exploded shape, value labels moved around with sticky links,
etc.)

Saving the file in 2003 format doesn't seem to enable the advanced features.

What's the solution?
