Default Locked cells in a database

Hi all,

I have created a database with a formula in the last column of the database,
so that it automatically copies down when I use the dataform to input new
records. However, I need to somehow lock the formula cells, so that users
don't upset the calculations. I know you have to unlock the cells that can
be updated, and then protect the sheet. When I do this and then attempt to
add new records, I get the message "cannot extend list or database".

Last, but not least, it will not allow me to sort the list!

Please, please, please...Is there a way around this?
