Default Drawing Diagonal Lines "Refresh" problem - Any suggestions

I am at my wits end working on an executive presentation for work that
continues to get worse each week. Using Excel 2003, I have a grid which
shows stats. It is a large grid but as an example, the problem goes as such:
the top cell has a number representing an actual achieved target; the cell
underneath represents the target number for that week. I have drawn a
diagonal line from the left corner of the bottom cell to the right corner of
the top cell. The problem that arises is that everytime I am working with
this document, there seems to be a "refresh" of the diagonal line such that
it gets "thinker" and "thicker" as for some reason more and more layers of
the same diagonal line are placed on top of one another. To the point that
this grid is accounting for all of fiscal year 2007, this problem leads to
major, major league delays and locking of Excel. I have already tried to use
the diagonal line that can be created from the border section, but it will
not work as the top cell "actual" data is being drawn from another worksheet
(i.e. it can't handle having a second hard-coded number in the cell) If
anyone has any advice, it would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!! Thanks in advance
for reading and your time.
