....I have a large amount of amount to produce multiple charts from, so using
Autofilter is a bit of a necessity. Using the Chart Wizard, I can easily select the filtered data range but it doesn't seem possible to select the (filtered) headings as the X-axis (time period). Any ideas or workrounds? Thanks in advance, Amanda |

when you set up your autofilter range leave the row you want to use for your
axis out of the range. "Birmangirl" wrote: ...I have a large amount of amount to produce multiple charts from, so using Autofilter is a bit of a necessity. Thanks - I've tried this. I selected the data range separately, then ttried
to select the column headings (Autofiltered) for the axis name, but apparently I can't do it... Is the row you want to use for the axis inside the Auto filter range?
another possibility if you are not already using the custom portion of the filter is to select both the data criteria and the axis row using custom "Birmangirl" wrote: Thanks - I've tried this. Hi Amanda -
Some chart types won't recognize that you want the left column for X values and the top row for series names, unless the top left cell is blank. You could clear the top left cell, make the chart, then refill the cell. Or you could use the Series tab of the Source Data step of the Chart Wizard to add each series individually, defining each X range, Y range, and Name. Or you could try to create the chart as an XY Scatter chart, which will use the top row and left column as you expect, and then convert it to the chart type you're using. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Peltier Technical Services Tutorials and Custom Solutions http://PeltierTech.com/ _______ Birmangirl wrote: Thanks - I've tried this. Another thing which could be done is to copy the Axis row to another section
outside the autofilter area and then reference this row. "Birmangirl" wrote: ...I have a large amount of amount to produce multiple charts from, so using Autofilter is a bit of a necessity.
