I suspect the issue is Office 2003 vs. Office 2007. Such confusion always
arises when Windows and Office are updated within the same time frame. In any case, the easiest way to accomplish something like this is to have two series, one with all the points, and the other with points to be labeled and "markered". Use one of these utilities to add labels from the worksheet to the second series: Rob Bovey's Chart Labeler, http://appspro.com John Walkenbach's Chart Tools, http://j-walk.com - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Tutorials and Custom Solutions Peltier Technical Services, Inc. - http://PeltierTech.com _______ "David Biddulph" <groups [at] biddulph.org.uk wrote in message ... You are confused with your terminology. You refer to "the microsoft version of excel" and to "With Vista ...". All versions of Excel come from Microsoft. You'll need to tell us which version of Excel you are using. Excel 2003? Excel 2007? Vista is a version of the Windows operating system, and under that operating system you can run a variety of versions of Excel. If you are running Excel 2003, the feature for adding or removing markers (and/or labels) for individual data points is Format/ Data Point, as distinct from Format/ Data Series which does it for all points in a series. If you click once on a series you can select the series, and another click will select an individual data point. -- David Biddulph "Joan Weisenbloom" <Joan wrote in message ... In the microsoft version of excel, I could make a scatter chart and put markers with labels where ever I wanted them. With Vista I can't get the label exactly where I want it (a minor problem) and I can't put markers on my line only for my randomly labeled points (a major problem for me as it is no longer clear what point the label is refering to). What I have been doing is graphing my hikes - elevation vs time. (All my mountains have flat tops.) I label trail intersections and other points of interestas well as rest stops. |
