Default Scatter Chart individual point changes

Office 2003 - I have a scatter chart and would like to make the bullet points
in the chart individual numbers and then have a legend telling what the
numbers correlate to (company names in this case). However, I can't seem to
change the scatter diagram points in the chart? They are diamonds right now.
Can I change each point individually in the chart to something different?

Any ideas?

Format Data Point will let you change an individual point, but that won't
show up in the legend. If you want different markers & different legend
entries, it sounds as though they should be different data series.

Can I change each individual data point to be something different such as a
square, diamond, etc.? I don't see the format data point option anywhere?

Click on a series once will select the series, click again to select an
individual data point. Then either use the Format menu or right-click.

One more question, I found how to change them individually, but now can I
custom change them to have each bullet a separate number instead of a type of
bullet? I won't need the legend, I would just like to number each bullet
instead of having a square, diamond, etc. for them as there may be 30+
different points on the scatter diagram. I see a custom option but that
doesn't allow me to actually change it to a number?

Thanks!

You can put a list of numbers in the worksheet, then use one of these
utilities to apply the worksheet labels to the data points as labels:

Rob Bovey's Chart Labeler, http://appspro.com
John Walkenbach's Chart Tools, http://j-walk.com

Stupid OE, I wasn't done yet.

Rob Bovey's Chart Labeler, http://appspro.com
John Walkenbach's Chart Tools, http://j-walk.com

Sometimes I use a large marker like a circle with no border but a fill that
matches the background, and I use the Center alignment of the data labels.
This way, the marker hides any features (gridlines etc) under the label, and
the label serves as a marker.
