Hello,
I am helping someone with a chart and I am a bit stumped. The chart needs to show for each month the number of items that are assigned or unassigned. Not only that but each assigned and unassigned quantity of items is of a certain number of days which is to be shown in the chart as well. (0-29, 30-59, 60-89, and 90+). The boss wants a line graph but I am not sure this works. I have not created very many charts and most of those have been simple bar or pie charts. This is a little over my head. Would a line graph be possible and if not, what is the best way of doing this? thanks Michael |

Hi,
Diagram a small sample of the data for us. Hi,
This is what the data would look like: Range Month Assigned Un-Assigned 0-29 Jan 2000 1200 30-59 Jan 1150 523 60-89 Jan 85 32 90+ Jan 1 0 0-29 Feb 2200 1100 30-59 Feb 850 725 60-89 Feb 101 52 90+ Feb 3 2 The boss wants to see in one graph by month how the assigned and un-assigned change for each range. This would be update monthly and we may even enter all of last years data so we can see a pattern. Thanks Michael "ShaneDevenshire" wrote: Hi, Diagram a small sample of the data for us. Rearrange your data:
Range Month Assignment Value 0-29 Jan Assigned 2000 30-59 Jan Assigned 1150 60-89 Jan Assigned 85 90+ Jan Assigned 1 0-29 Feb Assigned 2200 30-59 Feb Assigned 850 60-89 Feb Assigned 101 90+ Feb Assigned 3 0-29 Jan Un-Assigned 1200 30-59 Jan Un-Assigned 523 60-89 Jan Un-Assigned 32 90+ Jan Un-Assigned 0 0-29 Feb Un-Assigned 1100 30-59 Feb Un-Assigned 725 60-89 Feb Un-Assigned 52 90+ Feb Un-Assigned 2 Create a pivot table (Data menu). Drag the Value field to the Data area, and experiment with the other fields. Placing Month in the Columns area and Range and Assignment in the Rows area (Range to the left) produces this table: Sum of Value Month Range Assignment Jan Feb 0-29 Assigned 2000 2200 Un-Assigned 1200 1100 30-59 Assigned 1150 850 Un-Assigned 523 725 60-89 Assigned 85 101 Un-Assigned 32 52 90+ Assigned 1 3 Un-Assigned 0 2 which makes a potentially useful clustered column pivot chart (you need to change the chart type from stacked column). Other arrangements might be equally useful. The nice thing about the pivot table (and chart) is that you can move the fields around easily to see whether you have any reasonable relationships within the data. - Jon ------- Jon Peltier, Microsoft Excel MVP Tutorials and Custom Solutions http://PeltierTech.com _______ "THE BIG O" wrote in message ... Thanks Jon, I have played around with the pivot table and pivot chart. I
think I have arranged it now to look like we want it to. Now I just need to run it through an entire year to see what it looks like. Thanks again for your help.
