cursor in cell 3000+ rows down. why?
I consider myself an excel power user but this has me stumped. Whenever I'm
working with a workbook with multiple tabs and I tab from one to another, a strange thing often (but not always) happens. It will show the worksheet with A1 in the upper left corner, normal as you please. But when I hit, for instance, the right arrow key, it moves me from cell A3284 to cell B3284. It does this in most if not all files I work with. Why is A3284 the presumed "live" cell when I tab to a new worksheet? Once I have moved the "live" cell to my actual work area, it seems to remember it until I close the file and open it the next time, when it starts all over. What gives? |

sounds like there might be a macro which runs when you close out and does
something to each sheet. Is this all workbooks, or just one workbook? the sheet to which it opens, iis it the same sheet each time or a differtent sheet depending on when you saved it. additionaly do you save the workbook when you close it? I think bj nailed it. I thought it was all workbooks because it has been
happening frequently, but I think it was just one workbook that I have been referring to frequently (but not saving when I close it) -- that would explain why I couldn't find a "global" fix. It also explains why it happens frequently but not always. I had apparently selected a range of multiple worksheets in this one file and when I saved it for the last time many months ago, the cursor was in cell a3284 (for whatever weird reason). Since it's a dormant project and I no longer save the file when I close it, it opens with the cursor in a3284 of every sheet every time I open it. Thanks for your thoughts bj and Martin.
