Default Data Validation: Choice list does not appear

I use to use the validation data and I am face with a issue I never had:
I have file using validation data (base on a list using named cells) I send
this file to someone and when he send it to be back the choices lists do not
appear anymore. If I enter a value that is not is the list I have the error
messag which is correct
But the small arrow a the right of the cell does not appear and I am not
able to select value.

I guess an option has been turn on or off. Please Help me! (the person I
have send the file may not help me, he does not know if he has done something
or not :-( )

I'd try:
Select the cell
data|Validation
Check the Settings tab to make sure "in-cell dropdown" is checked.

If it is, then I'd try stepping through all the tabs in the data|validation and
compare them to the same settings in a cell that works.

Thank Dave to have answered so quickly. This did not solve my issue but
thanks to you I have additional information:

The in-cell dropdown" is checked.

I noticie that cell with data validation do not work in all the worksheet,
the validation data work perfectly in the other other worksheets of the same
excel document.
The worksheet is not protected.

Do you have any idea of the format or other set up that may have an impact?

Default Data Validation: Choice list does not appear

xl97 had a problem with data|validation cells that were above the windows|freeze
panes line (but I think that the down arrow still appeared)--and it was fixed in
xl2k.

And I think there have been posts that Data|Validation can get flakey when used
with merged cells. I believe the "Fix" was to delete the row and insert a new
row and reapply everything there (formulas/text/formatting).

I don't have a good answer for you.

Sorry.
