Default all hidden rows automatically unhide

I have some hidden rows and columns in my spreadsheet. When I write a
formula, eg sum(a1:b10), and click cell a1, all hidden rows and columns
automatically unhide. How do I stop the hidden rows and columns from unhiding
on their own accord?

Tools|Options|Transition Tab|Uncheck Transition navigation keys
(xl2003 menu system)

In fact, I'd uncheck all these settings.
