what i need to do is auto fill a column with the numbers 1-506.

So what's stopping you.
http://www.mvps.org/dmcritchie/excel/fillhand.htm To place constants down the column. A1: 1 A2: 2 Select cells A1:S2 and drag down to row 506 at the fill handle. The little bulge on the lower right corner of a selection is the fill handle. It can be on the left if the right side is not visible. To place the row number into the column such that they would adjust with deleted rows or could be extended if you insert rows. Select A1, enter 1
